Walk With Ease and Walking Club - Walk with Ease Monday, Wednesday, Friday SUMMER The Arthritis Foundation’s Walk With Ease Program is a community-based physical activity and self-management education program. While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease is a multi-component program that also includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational strategies. The program includes a guidebook and a walking schedule to get you safely moving toward better health. Studies by the Thurston Arthritis Research Center and the Institute on Aging of the University of North Carolina show that Walk With Ease is proven to:
Reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis
Increase balance, strength and walking pace
Build confidence in your ability to be physically active
Improve overall health
Our instructor Dawn Ennis, has several years of experience teaching fitness and nutrition all across Eastern CT. Dawn is a certified personal trainer and nutritional coach through ISSA and is a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. We ask for a $15 suggested donation however all participants regardless of contribution are welcome to join! This program is made possible by funding from the Town of Plainfield and the Title III grant program, funded by the Older Americans Act through Senior Resources - Eastern CT Area Agency on Aging. If you have any complaints in regards to service or treatment you are receiving please contact the Recreation Department Director (860) 564-1819 or Selectman’s Office (860) 230-3001 to resolve your complaint. Linda's Craft Corner.....and More! - Scrabble, Yahtzee, Mahjong Scrabble, Yahtzee, Mahjong, Wed. June 4th: Players choice. Bring a friend and have some fun! Teams will be formed based on the number of participants present. Card Making, Pre-designed, Thurs. June 5th: I’ve been getting tons of compliments on a card that we made nearly a year ago, so I thought we could make it again. The card features several birds on the front, made with nothing more that paper circles. So easy, yet so charming! Check out my samples table outside of the Craft Room to see this card that can be customized with a number of different greetings. Trivia With Friends, Wed. June 11th: Come exercise your brain and sharpen your memory by taking part in this fun group. This activity is always engaging and entertaining, as everyone in attendance offers stories and interesting facts pertaining to the trivia questions. You will have a great time, while also learning some interesting new things!Flowerpot Fairy Wands, Thursday June 12th: Come and make some of these wonderful little pieces of “garden jewelry” for your potted plants or your garden. We will use wire, bamboo, and beads to create our project. Make for yourself, or give as a gift. No Classes Wednesday June 18th or Thursday June 19th. Have a Wonderful Week! Chalkboard Wheel of Fortune, Wed. June 25th: This class will be a modification of the popular TV game show “Wheel of Fortune.” Come and join me for this entertaining guessing contest; we always have loads of fun in this class! Learning Through Documentaries, Thurs. June 26th: This month’s documentary, put out by NATURE, is entitled “Hummingbirds of Hollywood.” The description of this 1-hour program is as follows: “Amid the glamour of Hollywood, a woman finds herself on a transformative journey as she nurtures wounded hummingbirds, unraveling a visually captivating tale of love, fragility, healing, and the delicate beauty in profound acts of kindness.” The program will be followed by a period of interactive conversation. Scrabble, Yahtzee, Mahjong, Wed. July 2nd: Players choice. Bring a friend and have some fun! Teams will be formed based on the number of participants present. Card Making, Open Forum, Thurs. July 3rd: This will be an open-forum class where I will bring out an assortment of stamps, different colored inks, paper punches, colored pencils and markers, and other goodies for you to work with. Intermediate:Step things up a bit in this fun intermediate class. In this class the pace is a bit faster and the steps a little more on point. We’ll build off of what was taught in the beginner’s class to put everything together for some new dances. Previous line dancing experience strongly recommend. Flexiblity Fitness - Flexibilty Fitness Spring 2 What is Flexibility fitness? Fitness with bands for all levels of resistance, and all levels of fitness.
Resistance band workout is a strength training session that utilizes elastic bands to provide resistance during exercises, allowing for a full-body workout by targeting various muscle groups through movements like pulls, presses, and stretches, all while maintaining constant tension on the muscles throughout the range of motion.When the weather is nice join Dawn at the Lion's Park next to the Town Hall, if it is too hot or raining then class will be inside at Plainfield Recreation.

Dungeon and Dragons Adventures - D&D Adventures This club introduces players in grades 5th-12th to the adventures of Dungeons and Dragons (fondly known as D&D).
D&D is a tabletop role-playing game in which players design imaginary characters and go on adventures together with nothing but their imaginations, maps, and dice to guide them.
Game play is dictated by player decisions, collaborative problem-solving and the roll of the dice. Dice, maps, and story ideas are provided. Plots are co-created between the students and instructor, so paying attention and working together are necessary as games last many weeks, consistent attendance is encouraged.First night will be character development and learn dice play. Registration opens 2/24 for residents and 3/10 for non residents.Players who register before 3/17 will receive an official letter from the Dungeon Master about the quest that awaits them.Registration ends 03/24/2025Players will also receive:Dice, a dice bag, quest journal/log book, a dungeon folder, packet of rules, character sheets, and a tote bag to store it all. These items will need to be left here or brought each week with them in order to play.

Line Dancing - Advanced-THURSDAY Spring Spring Session is available for new members wanting to join.Beginners: Have you always wanted to learn how to line dance? Now’s your chance! No experience needed! In this class you’ll learn how to coaster step, jazz box, vine, shuffle, and weave, in addition to learning basic line dancing terms all while making new friends. This is the perfect way to get your steps!Session 1 must be completed in order to participate in Session 2. If you missed the 1st session you must wait till the next season to attend. Intermediate:Step things up a bit in this fun intermediate class. In this class the pace is a bit faster and the steps a little more on point. We’ll build off of what was taught in the beginner’s class to put everything together for some new dances. Previous line dancing experience strongly recommend. Session 2 is a continuation of the 1st session.Advanced: Calling all line dancing lovers!!! Looking to get back in the swing of things after a year and a half off? Our Advanced line dancing is back! This class is for those who have recent dance or line dancing experience. Choreography will be a bit faster with less time focused on instruction and more time DANCING! American Red Cross Swim Lessons - Pre-School Level 1 (Sat) Parent & Tot (age: 6 months-2 years and 11 months): This course is to familiarize children with the water and prepare them to participate in the learn to swim courses. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water. Children will have the opportunity to explore floating, blowing bubbles, and rolling from back to front in the water in a safe comfortable manner. American Red Cross Swim Lessons - Preschool Level 2 & 3 (Sat) Parent & Tot (age: 6 months-2 years and 11 months): This course is to familiarize children with the water and prepare them to participate in the learn to swim courses. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water. Children will have the opportunity to explore floating, blowing bubbles, and rolling from back to front in the water in a safe comfortable manner. Parent or other care giver must accompany each child into the water and participate in each class.Preschool Level 1 (age: 3-5): Focuses on being safe around the water and having the children become comfortable and confident while being in the water.Skills Taught: Basic water safety rules. Blowing bubbles and breath control. Submerging mouth, nose and eyes. Opening eyes underwater to retrieve an object. Floating on front and back. Swimming on front and back while using arm and leg motions. Jumping in and climbing out via the wall.Safety Topics: To be safe in and around the water, wearing a lifejacket and how to recognize an emergency and call for help.Preschool Level 2 (age: 3-5): Builds upon the basic skills acquired in Preschool Level 1. Works on building strength and endurance to achieve more independence while swimming. Students must be able to submerge fully comfortably.Skills Taught: Back float and front float, gliding on front and back, rolling from front to back and back to front, and breath control. Introduction to treading water, elementary backstroke arms, and rotary breathing.Safety Topics: To be safe in and around the water, wearing a lifejacket and how to recognize an emergency and call for help.Preschool Level 3 (age: 3-5): Continues to build on the skill previously learned as well as an introduction to strokes and building endurance swimming independently. All skills at this level are mostly independent.Skills Taught: Independent front and back float, swimming on back and front independently and changing direction while swimming. Treading water, elementary backstroke and introduction to front crawl.Safety Topics: Danger of drains, “Look before you leap”, what to do when you get too tired.Level 1-Introduction to Water Skills (age: 6-12): Focuses on being safe around the water and having the children become comfortable and confident while being in the water.Skills Taught: Basic water safety rules. Exhaling underwater and bobbing. Submerging mouth, nose and eyes. Opening eyes underwater to retrieve an object. Floating on front and back. Swimming on front and back while using arm and leg motions. Jumping in and climbing out via the deck. Discuss and demonstrate how to use a lifejacket.Safety Topics: To be safe in and around the water, how to recognize an emergency and call for help.Level 2-Fundamental Aquatics Skills (age: 6-12): Works on building strength and endurance while swimming and introduces students to strokes.
